The service

Fencing for privacy, security and a tidy boundary

Fencing is one of our core landscaping services, and we cover all aspects of it: new runs, full replacements, panel swaps, post repairs and gates.

A fence is only as good as its posts. We set posts at the right depth and spacing, and choose panels, gravel boards and fixings that suit the run and the exposure of your garden.

Our fencing work suits homeowners after privacy or a secure space for children and pets, people replacing a fence after storm damage, landlords tidying up boundaries, and anyone finishing off a new landscaping project.

Why it matters

What happens when a fence is left to fail

Leaning or broken fences rarely fix themselves. Each storm makes them worse.

Panels blow out

Weak or rotten posts give way in high winds, leaving gaps and debris across the garden.

Security gaps

A damaged fence lets pets out and makes it easier for people to get in.

Rot spreads

Timber in contact with soil rots quickly. Once posts go, the whole run follows.

Neighbour disputes

Leaning or collapsed fences often cause friction over responsibility and damage.

Common mistakes we see

  • Setting posts too shallow for the panel height.
  • Fixing panels straight onto soil without gravel boards.
  • Replacing panels on posts that are already rotten.
  • Using fixings that rust and stain the timber.

In detail

Fencing types and installation explained

The right fence depends on the look you want, the exposure of the garden and how long you want it to last.

Panel fencing

Lap and closeboard-style panels are a quick, cost-effective way to create a private boundary.

Closeboard fencing

Vertical boards fixed to rails between posts make a very strong fence that copes well in exposed gardens.

Slatted and contemporary fencing

Horizontal slats give a modern look and work well as screening around patios and seating areas.

Posts and gravel boards

Timber or concrete posts set firmly in the ground, with gravel boards at the base, keep panels off damp soil.

Gates

Side and garden gates hung to match the fence, so the boundary is secure and consistent.

Repairs vs replacement

If posts are sound, replacing damaged panels can be enough. Where posts are rotten, a replacement run is better value long-term. We'll tell you which on the visit.
