The service
Regular lawn mowing that keeps your grass healthy, not just short
Lawn mowing is where our business started. Youseff set up his own lawn mowing round before Solihull Gardening and Landscaping grew into the full maintenance and landscaping company it is today, so it is still the job we know best.
Our mowing service is for homeowners who have run out of time, people who find pushing a mower physically difficult, landlords who need rental gardens kept presentable between tenancies, and businesses that want their grounds to look cared for. Each visit includes cutting at the right height for the time of year, edging the borders and paths, and clearing the clippings away so you aren't left with bags to deal with.
Most customers choose a fortnightly or monthly round. Regular visits are priced at a lower rate than one-off jobs, and they keep the lawn in a steady pattern of growth that is much easier to manage than an overgrown cut every few months.
Why it matters
What happens when the lawn gets left
A lawn that misses a few cuts in spring or early summer can get out of hand surprisingly quickly, and getting it back costs more time and effort than keeping it right.
Long grass gets scalped
Cutting tall grass right down in one go strips the leaf and exposes the base of the plant. The lawn yellows, thins out and leaves bare patches.
Weeds and moss move in
Thin, stressed grass gives dandelions, clover and moss the space they need to spread. Once established they take seasons to push back.
Edges creep into borders
Without regular edging, grass runs into flower beds and over paths, making the whole garden look untidy even when the lawn is cut.
Rental and commercial sites suffer
An overgrown lawn is the first thing a viewer or customer notices. For landlords it can also lead to disputes at the end of a tenancy.
Common mistakes we see
- Cutting too short in hot, dry weather, which burns the lawn.
- Leaving heavy clumps of clippings on the surface, which smothers the grass beneath.
- Mowing wet grass with a blunt blade, which tears rather than cuts.
- Waiting until the lawn is knee-high before booking a cut.

In detail
Lawn mowing explained: heights, frequency and finish
A good cut is about more than running a mower up and down. These are the details that make the difference between a lawn that just looks short and one that looks properly looked after.
Cutting height through the season
Grass is cut a little higher early in spring and during dry spells, then brought down gradually as growth picks up. Never removing too much of the leaf at once keeps the lawn green and resilient.
Fortnightly or monthly?
During the main growing months a fortnightly round keeps most Solihull lawns looking neat. Smaller or slower-growing lawns, and gardens where a slightly longer look is fine, often suit a monthly visit.
Edging and finishing
Crisp edges along borders, paths and patios are what make a lawn look finished. We trim the edges on every visit and blow or sweep cuttings off hard surfaces.
Overgrown lawns
If your lawn has been left, the first visit brings it down in stages where needed rather than scalping it. After that it moves onto a normal round.
Residential vs commercial
For homes we focus on the finish and the stripe. For landlords, offices and shared grounds the priority is a consistent, presentable look on a dependable schedule.
When a lawn needs more than mowing
If a lawn is beyond saving, heavily patchy, uneven or waterlogged, re-turfing on properly prepared ground is often the better long-term answer. We can advise on the visit.
